Quilting Gallery is having their weekly contest. This week it is "Quilts for Girls". I have entered Baby Blue Birds for Abbie. Abbie (that's her in the photo saying "ta da") is my youngest granddaughter and the daughter of my oldest daughter...confused yet?

When our oldest daughter announced her pregnancy we were shocked to say the least..for many reasons that we won't go into here. I immediately started thinking of quilt patterns. I knew I wanted to do hand embroidery and while web surfing one day I found the cutest little embroidery patterns of baby blue birds. Each pattern shows a little bird holding a baby item...a rattle, a diaper pin etc..

Since they could be for girls or boys, I ordered the patterns and started stitching...
The only part I left unstitched was the end of the diaper pin. I waited until we found out the sex of the baby and then stitched the diaper pin in pink...
The pattern didn't come with any quilt pattern to finish it so I sat down with my graph paper and pencil. I knew I wanted to use 30's reproduction fabrics as I had used those same fabrics for her brother and sister's baby quilt. I started sketching and this is what I came up with...

I even had some fabric scraps from her siblings quilt and included them in hers.

Then why did I keep making
not 1 mistake.... fabric doesn't cover seam allowance on that far left corner



not two mistakes... um.. the colors are not supposed to match..they are supposed to be opposite each other.



Not three mistakes... oh the points don't match cause there is a pucker in the white fabric



Not four mistakes... yea, once again the fabric isn't long enough to go into the seam allowance



But FIVE mistakes... um,, I seem to have a problem with my fabric being too small!!



And then when I finally gave up...it kind of worked... Notice the two light fabrics are not the same. This is one half of the first block and the one half of the second block. Yea, I made all those mistakes on just two different blocks. And yes, I now see that the points once again do not match..


And this is what is on my design wall.

I am not fixing it again. I am done. really. in the whole scheme of things it is only one block and no one else will notice it. and you can keep a secret? right?


Do I dare start a new block? I'm kind of scared...

cross your fingers for us....

We are having our first OPEN HOUSE today. I have spent the week cleaning, decluttering, shining, sweeping, scrubbing and stashing.. I have a sore back and my hips ache....
If no one shows up I am going to scream.

On a good note, I am off to lunch with 2 sisters, my Mom and 2 friends that we have known since I was 2 years old. We grew up on the same neighborhood street and have kept in touch all these years. We see each other at weddings and baby showers, significant birthdays and a couple of times a year we head out to lunch to catch up on the gossip....

We are going here.... Hodaks ..
