More OP challenge and a giveaway....

Oh, Look at me, all cool and such....I changed my blog colors to reflect the OP challenge...

So I got 6 blocks done yesterday. I decided to leave the corners off of mine and I will add white sashing. I am loving this block design. I have 13 fq's, so I have paired up an orange with a blue. The 13 FQ has a cream color and it's not playing well with others right now.

I am wondering about reversing the colors and making some blue blocks with orange accent. What do you think? Do you think I should just make them all like this? Or make some blue blocks. Please leave a comment. Tell you what. I will leave the comments open until 8pm tonight. Then I will use the random generator and pick one winner to get a prize...Oh! You want to know the prize? Ok, here it is...

Last week the LQS gave a demonstration on making these key fobs. I bought a kit which included the hardware and a piece of webbing cut to size. I used some of my orange and made this...

Is this worth commenting for?? I will announce the winner around 9pm Central tonight and will give you 24 hours to contact me. This gives all you anonymous commenter's a chance to win. If the winner doesn't contact me within 24 hours I will pick another winner.

Ok, got it! Let the comments begin.................

Happy Sewing,
Nancy

  6. I agree with those who said to do some blocks with more blue in them.......and...if you don't like them mixed in with the ones you already have, you then have a start to a whole other quilt. :)

  10. Love the orange look of your blog. The key fob is nice! I have made several using grosgrain ribbon and my nieces seem to think they're all right.

  11. Looking good! If you have enough fabric, try a couple of blue blocks. If you don't like it, you can always revert back to just the orange. I think that the blue blocks will mix it up and give a great look.

  16. I love your blocks. Try switching the colors and see what you have. If you are not pleased then you can put the new blocks to use somewhere else. I love the key fob. I can see my keys on it!

  17. I think switcing the colors around would add some jazz to the blocks. Try one and see how you like it. Love the orange colors on your block. Great spirit!

  18. Very nice blocks! I vote to do some blue blocks and mix them in...but I'm a scrappy kind of quilter. It might also depend on what size quilt you want when you're finished. Love the fob, neat idea. Thanks for the giveaway!

  19. Love your blocks! I like it this way but doing the blue might look good too. LOL I have a hard time making up my mind.

  20. Isn't it amazing how comments go up when you're giving something away? If it were my quilt I'd be doing both colour combo's for a bit of variety.

  21. I love your blocks and the banner of fabrics you put up!!!! Good luck to all who enter your giveaway!!! I better get busy on my blocks!!!!

  22. You have the same question that I have - do I reverse the colors? I have five blocks done and at this point I'm thinking that I won't reverse them. I think it has a more modern look to it.

  25. Your blocks are great! Adding some blue would be a plus, I think.

  26. I love your header and your blocks. I would stick with the plan you are on for your blocks. So cute.

  27. I think my choice would be to make all orange blocks and no sashing. When the blues were all connected, it would make an interesting pattern...........IMHO

  28. I'm not familiar with the final pattern to the quilt...was this a mystery sort of...I thought that's what I read at Pat's place, but anyway. I think the whole point was playing with color, so reversing would be fun...who knows you may be able to place them so there is a secondary pattern or a very different look to the final quilt. More blue would tone down the orange some.... :)

  32. Great blocks. I think you should do blue blocks. I am going to be mixing mine up too. This is just so fun.

  33. OK I'm not in this OP weekend, but I agree with several of the others, add the blue blocks with the orange accent as well. I think they'll look great together.

  35. I love your blocks. I think it would be great to switch the colors around. I am going to do swapping on my fabrics too.

  36. Nancy (what a great name!!) I adore your blocks and I think maybe alternating the color positions in your blocks would look great. Wow!! Everyone is so creative. I haven't even got a picture of my fabric selection posted yet (I'm not sure how as I don't have a blog, but I do have a blog profile...hmmmmm) Anyway, I love the key fob, thanks for the chance to have it. Now, what are you doing reading this? Your supposed to be sewing, LOL.

  37. I also think you should try to add/swap the blue and orange. The more the merrier I always say.

  38. Great fabric! Love the variety! You could swap the blocks if you wanted, either way it is gorgeous!

  39. My vote is to stick with what you've got going. I love it. . . Amy (and the key fobs are great too!)

  40. Love your blocks! You always have such good color sense anyway. I don't think I would swap with blue blocks. The mainly orange blocks have such a "clean" look to them (not as opposed to dirty). Hope this makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, I love scrappy, and I love "mixing it up," so I would definitely change around the color placement. I wouldn't even necessarily keep the centers consistent, if it were me! But this is YOUR quilt, so ultimately you have to decide what's going to make YOU happy! How's that for noncommittal? --Lydia

  42. I absolutly LOVE this pattern. I would want to see the opposite blocks next to the ones you already have done. i am sure it would look cool, but that also depends on the sashing.
    thanks for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wow, I love the orange and blue combo! I'd entertain making some alternate blocks in the reverse color combo, just for interest. Or make a piano key border around the outside.
    Thanks for Sharing Nancy!
