Shabby Apple Giveaway....

A couple of months ago, I took a full day class at the local Hospice in order to become a volunteer...I knew when we moved that I would need to do something to get out there...and communicate with adults..I could so easily just stay in the sewing room all day...  I mentioned something in passing to my daughter (or did she ask me? can't remember) and I signed up..   Volunteers are always needed to visit with patients.  I asked to be assigned to the office to help with paperwork.  I file, make copies, put together folders and I am sure as the weeks go on, I will learn more projects to keep me busy..

Of course that presents another problem...  I needed clothes.  Clothes that an adult would wear to work.. Clothes that aren't worn out...and that meant I needed to shop..  So one day right before Christmas said daughter and I went and I actually tried on and bought a ton of tops...and one pair of jeans (yes, as a volunteer, I can wear jeans)..

Now comes the tricky part...  accessories..  I have a pair of earrings, a watch and a few rings that Rich has given me over the years...  Yet, I don't have that cute stuff.. those pieces that just make the outfit..

Well, I might have found the buying place....

Last week, Shabby Apple contacted me and asked if I would be interested in giving away a piece of jewelry to my readers...  I was shocked!  I have watched (and entered) giveaways at other blogs, but they were HUGE blogs...with tons of readers...Me?  not a big blog...although I love my faithful readers...

And so I went shopping in their accessories department and picked this...  It was really hard to choose from all the beautiful vintage pieces...

Key to Wonderland
I love the simplicity of this piece...  Anyone can wear this...  And I am GIVING IT AWAY TO ONE OF YOU!!

You can get two chances to win this fabulous necklace...  Leave a separate comment for each entry...

1.  Follow me (or if you already do then just leave a comment that you do)
2.  Go over to Shabby Apple and find an outfit that you think will look perfect with this necklace..(there is NO correct answer!) and leave me a separate comment with the link..
3.  Oh..let's give you three chances...leave me a message and tell me where you shop for work clothes...

And if you can't wait to see if you won...Shabby Apple is offering all of my readers a 10% off coupon that expires in 30 days... Just use threadinhand10off at checkout..

I will draw the winner this Friday Feb 17th,  at noon(ish)...  (someone remind me if I forget!)

Merry Christmas to me!!

I read a ton of blogs...I read for inspiration, tutorials, information, humor, ideas... many reasons..

Occasionally a blog I read has a giveaway...everyone loves giveaways and I used to add my name to each one in the hope I would win something..  the problem was I didn't care WHAT I won...and so I have some items in my sewing room that will never be used as they aren't my taste.  No more.. Now when I see a giveaway I look very closely and say to myself "will I use this", "Do I like this style", "Do I like the (insert giveaway item here)''...  Most of the time I will pass...I will not comment or if I comment I will let the blog owner know that I am not interested in the giveaway...

And then there are those times where I leave a comment while my fingers are crossed and I really really really want to win...

Here are two of those - They were both delivered today even though I certainly wasn't expecting anyone to add a trip to the post office to their last minute list of many things to do before Christmas...

First up is a giveaway by Pat Sloan..  Pat was the very first designer I stumbled upon after starting to quilt..  I even went on a McCalls Cruise because she was a teacher... She has such fun patterns and her great sense of humor and laughter is contagious...  This is what I won...

A Simplicity Deluxe SideWinder...  It will be well after Christmas before I have a chance to unpack and play with this... but I think I should get loads done if I don't have to stop, unthread my machine and wind a bobbin all the time..

And then I was completely surprised to find out that I also won these from Amber at A Little Bit Biased...

3 fat quarters

four patterns

a red and green pennant..I know that's a terrible photo, but I really wanted to hang it up..lol
A beautiful pillow...that now has center stage on a chair in my living room..

Amber has a great blog with tutorials, Tuesday Tips and more inspiration than I will ever need.

If these two blogs aren't on your daily list of must reads...go visit..you might find something you like..like a giveaway!!

Merry Christmas to you and yours...I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Season with family and friends...  I'll be back after the first of the year.

weekly update...

Seems I can only get to the blog about once a week...  The behind the scenes work is busy.. I am cleaning and packing and trying to organize.  I have learned quite a bit  since we have moved 13 times in almost 40 years of marriage...

So I am  spending my days going through drawers and culling them out. (the move is based on weight!) If I don't want it at the new house, I am getting rid of it here..trash, freecycle, donate...I will use them all..

I am also trying to get satellite tv scheduled, find internet access (will go with Wild Blue, which happens to be our ONLY CHOICE so don't tell me if you hate it!) and today is "find the trash companies name"...there is only one so it shouldn't be too hard...  and then we also have to call and cancel all that stuff here...
Every weekend when we leave we take a load to the new house..  We drove out late last night and took a load from the garage...lawn mower, big steel shelving unit, misc rakes and shovels...

And I wish I would have taken the camera because the concrete guys had been there forming up the pad for the new workshop...  I hope to get some photos tonight if it isn't too dark...

And we went and got a new laundry tub so I know what we will be doing this weekend.

So this means no sewing at this house.  I have to get my Habitat Challenge quilt finished.  I only need to hand stitch the binding ...  and I have a challenge due for another guild and I haven't even started it.  Well, I did start it, but I didn't like it so I want to start over.  I might not get to that..

I will be updating the other blog ...but I fear I will be absent from this one until after the move.  Wish me luck and I'll see you on the other end...hopefully with a nice, clean, organized sewing studio...

Oh forgot...I got an email last week and was sent an item to review...and GIVEAWAY!  So watch for that...cause you know I need to add something else to my calendar...lol
