Design wall Monday...

This is still on my design wall from last week.  I hope to get the rows sewn together and made into a pillow cover.

Friday we crossed our fingers and put a For Sale sign on this house.  I have no idea what will happen in this market..and it's kind of scary..   Over the weekend we worked on the "other" house. And one of the rooms we are doing is the sewing room...  I could use some help picking a wall color and would love any ideas for the room.  If you could design a sewing room from scratch, what would you NEED? WANT?

Today is quilt guild and we are to take up to five UFO's.  We will show them and have a certain amount of time to finish them...if we do we are put into a drawing for prizes.  It hasn't motivated me yet, but I found two to take...

Have a great day everyone!!

New sewing room....MORE room!!!!

My sewing room is white, so the wall color doesn't affect what I'm working on. I put a cute border up next to the ceiling. (Actually, that's left over from when the room was the baby's nursery, but it's still cute.) If/when I get a new sewing room, I'd add lots of hooks to hang tools on.

You asked: The first thing I planned was my design board--it is two sheets of 4x8 partical board covered in flannel. I love the extra room. After that I made sure I could sit and reach just about everything I needed to sew around me because I hate jumping up all the time. Lastly my fabric is stored behind doors because the light does bad things to fabric (fading for one). Keep your ironing board near (or buy a small one for small projects) and put up happy things that make you happy isomg amu any wall color you love.

Yes to the neutral walls ... and I'd like walls! My room is has a sloped ceiling so unless I hang something on the ceiling I don't have much in the way of walls to hang stuff. Well, except the design wall on one end. What I really need is a neat gene. Some day I'll get it straightened but it might be done by someone else!

Good light and a huge design wall! I have both in my sewing room but I'm working on a king-sized quilt for our bed and my design wall isn't big enough. I don't know how to measure a quilt for borders any more accurate way but on a design wall.

Good luck on your house. The house next door to our sold in 2 days and EVERYbody was shocked. You just never know!

I still like what is on your design wall. It looks good. I like to have a light color - white, off white, soft yellow, cream in the sewing room. It reflect the light and makes it easier to see the colors and what I am doing. The "other" house is looking good, very good. Best of luck with the sale.

Have a super great sewing, stitching, and selling day.

I painted my studio (call your sewing room a STUDIO!) design wall wall a pale gray, but the rest of the room will be yellow. For a design wall I just use fleece thumbtacked to the drywall. This is the fleece you buy in the interfacing section of the fabric store, not the fleece you make blankets or clothing with! My first design wall had the same fleece up for over 10 years!

Light, light, and more light! That's what I love in my "studio". I also have a fabulous cutting table, always open and ready to use and organize projects on. That's a must for me. I use my design wall for small/medium projects and that's nice too. I'd give up the design wall in favor of a cutting table.

I like the white with your twisted squares. It gives the eye some rest.

My design wall takes up nearly the whole wall in my "studio". It's the only full wall there was so that choice was easy. Plenty of hooks, I love hanging my rulers and embroidery hoops on the walls for easy access. I painted a color that I love, my sewing table has bright happy color on it (and matches my ironing board). I LOVE going in there. Oh and you need plenty of shelves for storage of all those yummy fabrics. Good luck with your new studio!

Lucky you, designing a sewing room! Me, I like closed storage so I would have cupboards or a re-worked closet with lots of shelves floor to ceiling. When I someday get a sewing room, I'm going to paint mine soft buttery yellow and have wainscoting in cream, with a wide plate rail on the top for display. I personally make sure my ironing board is away from my machine to allow for getting up and moving about!

My sewing room is also the guest room. But I have designed it to have lots of surface area to work on,that is at a comfortable height to work at, either standing or sitting, whichever your preference. Some of each is nice. A rectangular ironing surface, and having fabric behind doors or in drawers is very important to protect them from light, you would be surprised how just a little light coming the window each day will damage fabric. A place to file patterns, small bins to throw those crumb scraps that are too small to fold up and put away, color sorted. These are the things I love the most about my sewing room.

Lighting and light walls, mine are white but was thinking of changing to a light green shade and then thought it might effect my fabric color. I don't have a design wall yet, I have to many shelves, shelves, shelves everywhere. Can you have a big closet, that also comes in handy. I don't think I would go bigger, because of more treasures just filling in the space and then needing to expand again. Like what's on your design wall.

Sewing room walls... white! To show off every quilt that doesn't have a place in someone else's house, or even in my own!

All the best with your move and getting settled.

Love that large sewing room. I love that you covered the fireplace. I'd think about a flannel design wall over that. And I'd love a built in open shelving unit on either side to make it look as if it (the covered fireplace0 was part of that original planned built in.

How great that you are getting a dedicated sewing room. I love mine.
