saving the green jello....

So yesterday I am making the Thanksgiving dinner menu and then a grocery list.  One of recipes I wanted to make is a green jello recipe.  It's not JUST green jello, but that's what we have always called it.  Most of my immediate family doesn't even like it.  Wait...I think I might be the only one that DOES like it...lol  Anyway...I want to make some.  I find the document on my computer and lo and behold it is from 2008 and it's a .wps file..  dang it...I don't have "word" software anymore and don't want to download it, so Rich googles and found this site... It will convert any file extension to any other file extension...so I tried it out.  Very easy...and they send the converted file to your email... so easy...

Go HERE to find it... It's called ZAMZAR..

Just in case you want the recipe for the green jello...

Green Jello

1-8 oz cream cheese
1 - 20 oz can crushed pineapple
3 oz pecans
3 small pkgs lime jello
1 cup milk

Drain pineapple and keep ½ c of juice.
Dissolve jello in 1 ½ boiling water, add 1 ½ c cold water and ½ c juice. Cool to egg white set.
Beat cream cheese and milk until smooth.  Add jello with cream cheese/milk and add pineapple and pecans

Pour into pan and let set.
1 9x13 pan

Just thought I would share...

I I ate jello, this would be good. My mother ruined jello for me by always having it be the only food we could eat when we were sick. There's still too strong an association for me to enjoy it at all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I've had that when younger and it's very good but I've never made it. Thanks for the recipe. About Zamzar....is it a free file conversion? I clicked on their terms of use and they made passing mention of a possible fee. Recently, I wished I had something like that but had to make do.

No need to share that recipe with me. YUCK! My husband's grandmother use to make that. Maybe had she been able to read english we could of had a different jello recipe!
RIP Grandma, your donuts we the best!

PS Google jello and see what it's made from, you might change your mind then LOL

Isn't it funny how a recipe acquires a name. I make a really good Apple dish that my family always calls the "Apple Stuff". ha!

Yummmmm! I love jello anyway it's served except jello shots. Always make it for holidays because I have 2 granddaughters who love it also. Never made jello with milk as an ingredient though. ENJOY!!

I wonder if this is the same stuff that my Mom's family loves, although they call it "Green Stuff". I don't like it; but they LOVE it.

I have an aunt that use to always make that green jello, and I loved it. I haven't had it in ages, but now that I have the recipe, that's on my list to make next week. Thanks so much for sharing.

I make the exact same jello, EXCEPT I use yogurt instead of cream cheese. I learned to make it in high schools "boys foods" class--and we made it with cottage cheese. My mother would add green peas to it...and maybe a little cheddar cheese (gross).

To clarify, if I use yogurt, I use it instead of the cold water--so one cup boiling water to melt the gelatin, and then add in one cup of cold yogurt (and yes, I play with yogurt flavors).

This is the green salad recipe my family always had on hoildays:

Pacific Lime Mold

Dissolve 1 pkg. lime gelatin in 1 c. boiling water. 1 (9 oz.) can crushed pineapple, drained (reserve juice), 1 c. creamy cottage cheese, 1 t. horseradish, 1/2 c. mayonnaise, 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Add juice from pineapple to dissolved gelatin. Chill until slightly thickened. Beat until frothy. Fold in remaining ingredients. Chill in mold until set. Serves 6
