New to me.....

A couple of weeks ago Miss Nancy and I took a class at the Quilted Fox. Susan Cleveland came out with a new technique (well, it's not that new. I have had the kit for a couple of years now) called Piping Hot Binding. There were only 3 of us in the class so we got a lot of individual attention. This is such a great technique and it really adds some interest to your binding.

We were to take a 12 inch block already lightly quilted to practice on. I didn't have anything just laying around so I decided to use one the redwork blocks from my Winter Wonderland quilt top. Let's face it. I am not getting that top block finished. I decided a while ago to repurpose the blocks into Christmas presents this year and recycled the pattern to another stitcher (for a little cash, I might add! HA HA)

So here is the finished little wall hanging. And little it is...it only measures
inches..

That little red strip of fabric next to the binding is the Piping Hot Binding. It is cut 1/4 wide and there is a little bit of cording inserted. Very easy, but lots of interest...

I plan to use this technique again on my Chinese Coin quilt. I just need to find some leftover fabric... or maybe get a solid color to use...

Today I am grocery shopping. I sewed a secret project yesterday and didn't get to the store. BUMMER, because everyone goes on the weekend and I try to stay away from the stores on the weekend...

Happy Sewing,
Nancy

So cute, nice, well done, and, and, and...
Thank you for for sharing. I saw some of this type of work in Canada last fall and have had it in the back of my mind to figure out how to do it. Thank you for the information and the links. Don't you love blogging/sharing. Life is so short and I want to learn all that I can to enhance my love of hand embroidery. Your thought about what to do with your block is brilliant!

Love your little redwork with the binding! I bought that book and there might even be a kit with it. I wonder where it is, LOL! I admire you for realizing you won't ever complete the Winterland quilt and have found a way to use it and move on to other projects.

You know I've seen that piping hot binding kit in the quilting store and kept thinking about it. But I never bought it. This looks so sweet with that tiny bit of piping accenting the redwork. I may have to visit my quilting store soon. :-)
