One eyed.....

Remember the old song? One eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater?? Yes, I am old...
Well, yesterday and today I have been one-eyed...not sure what is going on, but my right eye is all red and watery and hurts like a son of a gun.... I don't know if there is something in there or what... it's very light sensitive so even typing this on the computer makes it water and I can't possible think of sticking a big magnifying mirror and bright light near it to get a good look.

I will leave you today with some photos of the bagels? I made Saturday. Another Christmas present I got was a Kitchenaid Professional 600 Mixer. Um...can you say complete surprise? My sister is SO JEALOUS!! She is the cook/baker in the family. I do enough to get by with...

The batter all ready to go....

Here are the ingredients for the bagels, ahem....along with a stray banana and some krispy kreme donut leftovers...
The first mixing of the dough...the first rise...shall we take a peek?

the first "hint" that maybe something isn't right.... the water bath....
Yea, these are supposed to be bagels. Don't they look more like pretzels? Yea, that's what I thought... guess I will try again.

They did taste good, although the next day they were really, really, really chewy and the dog wouldn't eat a bite...I found his at the top of the steps and then he slept all afternoon. Guess the chewing wore him out...

Need a challenge for 2009? Come over to Rachel's and join us in making a quilt this year, one day at a time....

Happy Sewing,
Nancy

I am sooo jealous!!!!!!!!

Even the most accomplished bread bakers have a bad day - so don't give up! You know how the Rock Star loves Bagels ;)

ooooh you lucky thing, you! I have a Kitchen Aid mixer and I LOVE it so much! I use it every day to make bread/rolls etc. It sits permanently on my counter, never comes down:) It also does great mashed potatoes:)

Let me know if you want my recipe I use in it - I use the same recipe for everything - bread, rolls, cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, BAGELS, you name it, it works! Plus it's super easy, just dump it all in at once and mix. Love my Kitchen Aid! Oh I think I said that already lol!

I'm thinking I'm going to wait for you to build up those "Master Chef" skills before I ask for a sample of those bagels, LOL!
But that mixer is looking pretty spiffy... way to go Nancy, woo-Hoo!
