The Winners....
This is the building with our sewing room. Our sleeping rooms, family room and a snack kitchen were in here also. The sewing room was WONDERFUL!! Large windows on three sides with shades to block out the glare of the afternoon sun...
This building houses the huge kitchen with three refrigerators and at least 5 sinks, none of which we had to use...lol Pat, our hostess, did all the meal serving and cleaning up. There are more sleeping room in this main house.
Hey! Some of those gals just couldn't get started sewing fast enough!!
Our patio...some made good use of this for afternoon hand stitching. I forgot to bring mine.. Next year I will take some bottles of wine.
We had a wonderful time. Lots of sewing, two quilt shop stops, good food and talking, talking and more talking, late into the night for some with domino games and wine and loud laughing....
Now the winners.....
Richelle who correctly guessed 3 projects finished.
AND
Linda who (trying to cover all bases) guessed 3 1/2 to 4 because while I finished 3 projects, I got half way through the fourth.
I have shot off emails to you both to send me your mailing info....I will get your prizes mailed out on Tuesday.
I won't be showing the prizes until they are received. Sorry....
Tune in tomorrow for a complete quilt show. The sewing gals did some spectacular piecing and quilting....
Happy Sewing,
Nancy

Sorry for the tease, but DH is standing at the front door with hands on hips, tapping his foot waiting for me to get my tennies on.... We are off to breakfast and then to help my sister move into her new condo.
I will have photos of all the finished items to show you...

Teenagers get a bad rap....
A couple of weeks ago, my son's band played a new venue. As they were packing up to leave, somehow his briefcase disappeared. He had over $600 worth of guitar pedals in there. Of course, being the teen boy that he is, there was no identification in the briefcase so we assumed they were lost for good.
Last night he received a phone call from his friend. Someone had been trying to get hold of him. Today, after many phone calls back and forth, he went to this guys house and got all of his pedals back. A member of another band playing the same night had found the briefcase in the parking lot, popped it open and finding no identification started calling all the bands to see if anyone had lost it.
To say he is elated would be putting it mildly...
Thank you to the St Charles teenager that took the time and energy to return something that wasn't his. I am so grateful.
So, go hug your teenager tonight. He might be the one that returned my son's equipment. Or not....but hug them anyway...
Don't forget to check out the contest in my last post.... We are visiting a new quilt shop tomorrow so there might be two prizes....
Happy Sewing,

Those 9pm phone calls....
We told him to go ahead and drive home and then DH and I went out with flashlights and searched the car. No wallet.
So yesterday, I had to drive him to school, go to the bank to block his debit card, go to the store to buy him a new wallet (and yell at DHL), download a PDF file to fill out for a new SS card, pick him up from school, take him to the drivers license bureau to get a new one (surprisingly easy) and then to work. Then we made the choice to drive his car into town for him, so he can get himself home tonight. He also has been told to leave his wallet in the car when he is at work.
He is taking it remarkably well. Of course, he didn't have to drive all over town...
On the sewing front, I have been working on some redwork basket blocks. I had started these last year in multicolor and just didn't like them. I am very happy with these...

Please, allow me to vent.....
Tuesday. Phone is scheduled for delivery. I don't live in a bad area of town, but we do have some construction going on in the subdivision and there are a lot of non-locals running through here. I stayed home all day (except to leave for 1 hour to have my stitches removed).
Tuesday night - no phone and tracking says it is scheduled for delivery on Wednesday.
Wednesday - Phone is on the delivery truck. Actually ON THE TRUCK. I stayed home all day waiting for the phone to arrive. Finally I call DHL tracking and am told that it is on the truck and will be delivered today.
Wednesday night - No phone. I call DHL again. The "representative" said that the driver HAD the package, but wait....the driver brought it back. They can't tell me why he brought it back, but it might be because it was time for him to go home. go home....go home? Yea, GO HOME!! So they are sure it will be delivered Thursday.
Thursday am - (Story for tomorrow) happens and I have to take Rock Star to school. I also decide to run to Wally World and get a few things we are out of because I haven't left the house for 2 days. Paper towels can get scratchy...I'm just saying...(as Sharon would say)
While in Wally World, my phone rings. "Hi", some young little girl says, "I'm calling from DHL and we have a package for delivery and would like to know if tomorrow would be alright for delivery?" This is said so innocently on her part I am sure she has no idea what she is in for.
I EXPLODE, In Wally World next to the milk case. I am ranting and raving like a maniac. I should tell you that I wear a headset, so I actually look like I am yelling at someone that isn't there, because I am standing there with my hands on my hips shouting to myself. "NO, TOMORROW IS NOT OK, today is ok, right now is even better, yesterday would have been acceptable and Tuesday would have been downright remarkable". "Tomorrow is not even a possibility" . Now I must say, she handled herself ok. She didn't hang up on me and I used bad words like "corporate account with DHL", crazy, not acceptable, let me talk to your supervisor words.....
No supervisor where she is. WHAT?? You are all alone? Ok, give me a number where I can call your supervisor....Um....I don't have one... What?? No phone number. (now remember, I am talking to myself at Walmart in front of the milk case, and yet security hasn't shown up yet, interesting) I finally hang up on her, get my TP home and sit down with "google". No Phone Number For DHL in Bridgeton, Missouri...NONE!! I finally called another DHL and told her I want the number to DHL in Bridgeton where the trucks come in and get loaded. Someone must be there and I want to talk to them now.... Um..I got a phone number...I am sure you aren't surpised.
So I called TED....Ted says "give me your tracking number" (no "please") I give it to him. He says, "oh, your package is scheduled to go out on tomorrows truck".
Now after repeating everything I have just told you, he decides that he will -
1. call a special courier in
2. deliver the package to my DH work
3. do it all by 2pm today
Today, Ted has a new entry in his book. Right next to my name it says "PISSED OFF BITCH" in bright red letters.
But, surprise. At exactly 2pm this afternoon a cell phone arrived at my DH work. nice work Ted. You should have done that on Tuesday.
Well, I did have some pretty pictures for you, but they will have to wait until tomorrow. I don't want to lose my steam by posting them here. I am still furious.
Happy Sewing, tune in tomorrow for the story that happened last night. It involves the Rock Star and another of his unending misadventures....

What a mess......
And look what I added to the sewing room. Now this is worth keeping. Brenda showed this little wool bag she made for her Rotary Cutter. BUT...her RC didn't fit. I told her it would fit mine (jokingly) and she sent it to me....Is it not the cutest thing you have ever seen?? And I love HOUSES!! Anything with a house on it is my style. I would love to find a redwork BOM with a house theme. Anyone know of one? It would have to be hand embroidery, not machine embroidery.
And look what I got from Daisie...
What a sweetie...Thanks Daisie, I love your blog too....
So here are the rules...
1. The winner can put the logo on her blog
2. Link the person you received your award from
3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs
4. Put links of those blogs on yours.
5. Leave a message on the blogs of the girls or boys you've nominated
So I give this award to these bloggers that I read every day....
Kim because she recycles and makes it sound like fun.
Stephanie who is determined to use her crockpot for 365 days running
Helen who makes me want to pack up and move to Australia
Joanna who finds time to sew even with 3 little kids
and finally
Sweet P who is a huge sports fan, but keeps it real by quilting (she has two blogs so check her out HERE also)
Better go now...I have started watching 2 neighborhood kids after school and today I have slice and bake sugar cookies for them to bake and decorate with sprinkles. They are only here for an hour so hopefully there won't be too much of a mess.
Happy Sewing,

A Peachy Sunday......
I have enough in the freezer for two more pies. I will attempt to keep them frozen until the dead of winter when fresh peach pie will taste so good.
Tomorrow is quilt guild and once more I have procrastinated. I have step 1 of the mystery quilt ready, but need to do step 2.
Off to the sewing room for me!

Nerves of Steel.....
"Mom, do you want the ground beef, the ground chuck or something with 80 in it?"
He said he knew the phone ringing would scare me and he stood in front of the meat case for 5 minutes trying to decide whether he should buy whatever ground meat looked right or call.
I broke out laughing and crying at the same time.
"Rock Star" I said, "either one will be fine."'
Then I called DD#1 back to make sure she knew everything was ok.
I have started working on my bag/bucket for Linda's swap. I have had the pattern in my head for awhile, but just today found the perfect fabric. Need some embellishments!! I think a Saturday trip to Hancocks is in order. Will show a sneak peak in a few days.

Lucy!! I'm HOME.....with dinner
I must say this has ALWAYS worked. It has never failed me. I don't consider it devious either. Here is the story, you decide.
My DH is fairly picky. We have been married for 36 years (37 in Dec). In the beginning of our marriage he would eat pretty much anything I could/would cook. There wasn't a whole lot I could master. I had a stay-at-home Dad for the last years of HS and first year of work. He did all the planning and cooking of breakfast and dinner for the family. My Mom worked. Pretty different for the late
60's and early 70's. And they weren't hippies...lol far from it.
Anyway off track there. In the beginning, as I was saying, DH would eat pretty much anything. In fact it wasn't until we had been married for 2 years that he told me he didn't really care for chicken pot pie, homemade or otherwise. BUT, he has always been a meat and potatoes guy, and he really could care less about the potatoes.
There are a certain number of meals he will relish. Steak with white bread, Pork Chops with Onions, HIS homemade spaghetti and meatballs, bbq pork steaks, well you get the drift. He doesn't eat any veggies although will eat salad.
About 10 years ago in a stroke of genius, I bought some Ekrich Smoked Sausage. A couple of days later, I got it out of the freezer and set it on the counter to thaw for dinner (please don't email me that you should thaw dinner in the fridge, I have been thawing meat on the counter for years and we haven't died yet). As DH was leaving for work, he noticed the meat on the counter and didn't say a thing. Halfway through the day, he called to tell me that he knew I was (insert tired, beat, hungry for Chinese, in a hurry) and he would bring dinner home. OK...who am I to argue. Back in the freezer went the smoked sausage. (please, I know. But it hadn't thawed yet and if this bothers you, you are in for trouble if you keep reading). So, a couple of weeks later, I again pulled out the smoked sausage to thaw and again DH noticed it as he was leaving for work and yes, once more he called mid-morning to say he would bring dinner as I was (insert tired, beat, hungry for Chinese, in a hurry) and he would bring dinner here. Once again (NO EMAILS) I put the sausage back in the freezer. This happened a couple of more times before I finally realized he DOESN'T REALLY LIKE SMOKED SAUSAGE!! Hm... I will try one more time?? Yep....it happened every time I got that dang smoked sausage out. Have I stumbled upon something here?? YOU BET!! Any time I didn't want to cook dinner, I pulled out that package of frozen sausage and set it out on that counter right where he couldn't miss it. Sometimes I even told him what was for dinner, just in case he missed it on the counter.
I kept that same package of Smoked Sausage until 2 years ago when we moved here and I finally pitched it still frozen.
Please know that I never bought any more smoked sausage, just the one package. It was marked. If it would have come down to actually looking like I would have had to cook it, I would have switched it with another meal. Like eggs and bacon or something. I never would have served 10 year old meat. Really!!
So now you know the story. No sex, no whining, and no promises. And it works.
On a sewing note, I got 8 mystery blocks done, which is step 1. Tomorrow I have to make 4 blocks for step 2 and then I will probably go ahead and do step 3 whatever that is. This is a scrappy mystery quilt and I decided to use all of my primitive colors, like dark red, golden yellow, dark green, tans with some blues mixed in. It will take a year to finish and as one of the three that picked the pattern I have seen the end and know how it will look.
And I just noticed we are completely out of dog food. I wonder if there is someone that might want to go to the IGA for me tomorrow....
Happy Sewing,
Nancy

Just a short note...
Happy Sewing,
Nancy
off to the sewing room to start on the 2008 Mystery quilt for guild meeting Monday. I have 2 months to do.....
of course, now I don't have to stop and take the Rock Star to work, or his friends, or ANYWHERE!!!
Think good thoughts for me.....and Thank You's
I have been really bad and neglectful and not thanked my sister for taking over my blog while I was under the knife. Hopefully some of you have tried her recipes and enjoyed them.
I also want to thank everyone for all their get well wishes....my toe is feeling much better. Showering should not involve saran wrap, trash bags and packing tape, but that's what it takes in my world. I will have to keep using those tools until my stitches come out on Tuesday. I have tried to keep up with comments and I fear I have missed replying to some. I don't mean to. It is harder for me to reply as I still don't have my laptop back (it should come today) and I have to read email from the server and it's s-o-o-o-o- s-l-o-w-.....
Tomorrow I will give you a sure fire way to get your DH to bring home dinner. I stumbled across this about 10 years ago and it works every time. Oh, and it does not involve sex, whining or promises....

the rock star and the police raid.....
So I guess it's time I tell the story of
The Rock Star and The Police Raid.....
My son is in an alternative music band. Well, there are just two of them. Rock Star and Rock Star 2. They are fairly good and last Saturday were booked at a not-so-local venue (rock speak for concert hall or any other building where they will allow them to play loud music). Since I was smack down on the couch, DH agreed to drive him and two other friends along with their equipment. We gave Rock Star one of our cell phones and told him to call when he needed to come home. About 9pm the phone rang and lo and behold it was him. I answered and said "are you ready to come home now?" He said "yea, the police said we could leave". WHAT!!????? What Police?? Apparently 15 police officers walked into the venue, yelled "sit down where you are". Police talked to the owner and one other performer and then said all the kids should go home. Turns out this venue doesn't have a license to hold concerts and someone either called and turned them in or the police heard them as they cruised by.
Rock Star now knows we will check out any venue in the future.

Nancy
What kind of popsicle are you?
You Are a Cherry Flavored Popsicle |
You are sweet and friendly. For you, summer is all about doing your favorite things. You are a nostalgic person. You love old fashioned things like ice cream trucks. You savor everything. Every taste of summer, the feeling of the sun, the smell of the beach... Of all the types, you love summer the most. |
I haven't forgotten to give you the story of the Rock Star and the Police Raid, but have to visit the Podiatrist this morning for a post-op toe check.
Be back later....

Klutz Footies??
photo borrowed from OzQuilting
Klutz Gloves were first introduced by Fons and Porter. You wear one on your non-cutting hand so if your Rotary Cutter jumps track you don't slice through your hand. Now I think Fon's and Porter needs to introduce Klutz Footies. Thin booties made of the same fabric to wear while walking around your sewing room. WHY??
If I would have had some of those, this wouldn't have happened.
Tuesday morning I was pressing some Kona Cotton. I was getting it ready to transfer a few more basket blocks for my redwork A Tisket, A Tasket quilt. I turned around and "shoot, that hurts". I reached down and pulled a needle out of my left great toe. I hobbled around for a few minutes and promptly forgot all about it. That night I noticed that my toe was red and showed my DH what had happened. We really weren't too surprised, I DID put a needle in it. The next day it was still sore and by Wednesday night it was not only red, but swollen and a little warm to the touch.
After thinking about it a bit, I said, "I wonder if maybe the needle broke in half?" I decided Thursday morning to call the dr's office and get in to show it to him. I figured I needed an antibiotic. Well, the dr's office was very busy, one dr is in China adopting a baby, one on vacation and one had a death in the family. They were down to two physicians and there was no way they could see me. They suggested I go to the ER. I really had a problem with that. I am a nurse, I don't like to go to the ER. The ER is for people that are bleeding, not breathing, in car accidents...etc.... Not for me that has a little red toe. BUT, I went anyway. I felt totally silly. Here I am in a trauma room with a red toe. The ER doc ordered an xray, so down the hall I go. I used to work in a hospital. I KNOW that the xray tech can't tell me anything. I ask anyway! lol Her response? "oh, I really can't tell you anything, BUT doesn't it feel like something is sticking you in there?" HOLY CRAP!! WHAT!!?? YEP! I have half of a size 9 redwork needle broken off in my toe. The ER doc says he won't touch it and wants to send me to a Podiatrist about 30 miles away.. Now, what you don't know is that our son (who is 16) has driven me to the ER. He only has his learners permit. I don't know that I want him to drive me to the Podiatrist 30 miles away. It's enough trauma that I have to have this dang needle removed from my foot by a dr that I don't know in an office I have never been to. So I called my sister (the guest blogger) and she was nice enough to send her daughter to drive me. Katie and I dropped off Rock Star at McDonalds to work his shift and took off for the Podiatrist. We had in hand my xrays on a CD. No ol'fashioned films in a brown jacket for me.... The Podiatrist gave me the news.
"no eating/drinking after midnight, go to the hospital for blood tests, take this antibiotic tonight and in the am...." WAIT!! What is going on?? "oh, we can't take this out in the office, we have to sedate you and dig for it", she says calmly.
UGH!!!!
So, Friday afternoon I had the other half of the needle dug out. I am now home with a walker and completely dependant on DH to get me a drink, my sewing (yes, I am still using needles) and anything else. See those clothes behind my foot? I folded them and they will probably sit there for awhile before he decides they need to be put away.
Oh, and because that isn't enough excitement for the weekend. Tune in tommorow and let me tell you about the Rock Star and the Police Raid....
AND I need more size 9 needles...

Older, not Wiser.......
Earlier in the week she stepped on a "9 Embroidery Needle" (I don't know what that is, but I'm sure most of you do know) and only part of the needle came out. She hobbled around for a couple of days and then decided (wisely) to go to have it checked out. My daughter was in town this week and drove to get her (40 minutes) and drive her around to the Dr's, etc. (dementia GG thinks my daughter drove 4 1/2 hours from her hometown to do this for her). Wellllllllllll, today at 2 pm, she is having surgery to remove the remainder of the needle from her big toe. She will be fine, after all she is a nurse, but the pain meds may put her down for a couple of days.
So I will contribute to her blog today with a recipe I created. It is a great recipe for summer and uses fresh vegetables. If you have any cooking skills at all it's very easy. If you don't have fresh broccoli, use frozen. If you don't have cherry tomatoes, cut up larger tomatoes. You will not compromise the taste. I hope you try it and like it.
Freah Veggie Recipe
And here is my famous "Put the Lime in the Coconut Muffins"
(Sorry I can't figure out how to post a link correctly and I need to get back to work)
I will report back on the progress of our patient late tonight or tomorrow.
Have a great week-end!!
Carolyn (aka Susie in Missouri)
Welcome....
Why a guest blogger, you ask? I will let her tell you if you promise not to laugh..

Give UP...???
My LAPTOP.........
.it wouldn't boot up this morning and a call to HP tells me they will send me a FedEx box to ship it to them. I won't have it back for at least 2 weeks. I will be "stealing" time on hubby's while he is at work. The weekend will be a battle. He is on eBay ALL THE TIME... I will have to be patient and wait for a turn.
Maybe I will get some sewing done?

A baby and a bench....
OH!!
OHHHHHH........Hi Grandma!!
Abbie (otherwise known as bitty to her momma) has been staying with grandma and grandpa since Friday... She has turned out to be a very good baby. She is on a fairly regular schedule and is back on it today. She was way way way off on Saturday. She was up at 5am (2 hours early) and then of course all the naps and feedings were off. She finally went down for the night at 6pm. I got up at 2:30am to give her a bottle and change her diaper, but she went right back down and slept til this morning... I think we are back on track. Just in time for her to go home sometime today. Our daughter and SIL had a chance at a house and weekend at the lake and they deserve it. They both work shift work and with three kids you don't get a chance to be alone very often.....
On another note -
3 steaks, 3 potatoes and 2 tomatoes for dinner $17
gas for trip to sister and brother-in-laws $20
getting to use scratch cover for the first time, cut foam with an electric knife, hold fabric while sister uses an electric staple gun and use a glue gun for the first time - PRICELESS
Her flea market find that will have a place on honor in her new condo... She done good!!!

Spam, I am.....
Thursday I received a message from "blogger" that my blog had been LOCKED OUT because I had not followed the service agreement..... It hit my spam folder so I assumed it was spam. I did go ahead and open another Internet page and brought up my blog. YIKES!! It wasn't spam.. I have been locked out of my blog since then.
Anyone else have this happen???? How frustrating...
I have lots to tell you, but my sister is here and she found my grandma's recipe box and we are going through it....
Bye til tomorrow..
